Mother Daughter Morneau

This is the first collaboration between David Morneau ( http://5of4.com )and myself for Dance-A-Day. We are going to go back and forth with me giving him videos to compose to and him giving me music to create to. Kelly and Kailei were so wonderful to watch. Kailei choreographed a short dance, pretty awesome for a 5 year old.

July 12

8:00 - 10:00 PM (Langston Room)Visionist Studios presents NINEVEH: a conflict over water. The City of Nineveh is ruled ruthlessly by Nimrod who has succeeded to commodify every living resource as owner of the Global Water Corporation. The depletion of the world's oil supply forced the complete use of solar and wind energy, so the profiteers who shape history had to find new things to own and control. Unpolluted lakes, rivers and aquifers are heavily guarded leaving only rainwater to be illegally harvested by the few Resisters who dared to defy the system. Come witness the stage reading fundraiser of this independent film. Meet the writer, actors and director as they embark upon their journey as guerrilla filmmakers. Educate yourself to the impending water crisis that already claims 25,000 lives a day. FREE RSVP required mailto:kymone@prisonpoetry-theplay.com

The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is tall. In fact it is so tall that it can appear short. The worlds largest free standing masonry structure has walls 16 feet thick at its base and 8 inches thick at the top. It was designed by Robert Mills and it opened on my birthday in 1888 but 79 years before I was born.

Museums

Today I went to the National Portrait Gallery and saw some works about dancers and decided to do some dancing of my own. There was a photo of Mikhail Baryshnikov and a painting of Martha Graham by Paul Meltsner and Merce Cunningham was in a video art piece by Nam June Paik. I love Paik's work so I danced with Megatron/Matrix 1995 at the National Museum of American Art.

Tryst

Kelly and I were hanging out at Tryst when she dared me to get up and dance to "Oh Sherrie" which I did to great applause from the patrons. As the song ended she jumped into my arms and I swung her around and we sat down and laughed about our pre-futurist performance. Soon after this guy gets up and boogies down. Kelly says to me, "you have to get him on tape for danceaday, so I did.

Dupont Circle

It was a beautiful day in Washington. I spent most of the day inside after a really fun night but I managed to get out into the sun for a bit. I decided to do today's dance in Dupont Circle a neighborhood with lots of  restaurants and coffee shops. The circle was named for Rear Admiral Samuel Du Pont of the Du Pont chemical family.
