Word Sandwich

Put those words into a sandwich because you’ll eat them later on
You know your sidewalk is a porch and I am not your son
Your car, she is a couch, we’ve said this all along
Your radio is your conscience, you must already know that by now
If I sit down by the sidewalk and scrape up all your dreams
Don’t wave until the ending or so it will seem
Cause I’m leaving on that first flight that carries my home team
They’ll be tasting all that foolishness and carrying all that pride
They’ll make their first discovery that will slowly reek of pain
Tasting all the never said words, they’ll drive you insane
Carry up emotion and wrap up your surprise
You can’t contain the motor that runs deep down inside
Oil every spigot, carry every plow
Because the more you see the spectacle the larger it is now
I don’t care about the runoff, Ill slip into my spill
The surface is too springy, reminds me of a hill
Perhaps with winter over, the earth will just let go
You cannot tell the difference between frozen water and the snow
You’d think with all their muscle, they could have hoped for so much more
Who knew the rifle’d be loaded as it aimed in to the store
No human hand will carry the tune you cannot hide
It will bleat across the horizon and clear up to the sky
A note for all tomorrow, ringing up from yesterday
A cry that settles nothing that no man could ever pay
Take away the money from deep inside his thought
Its worthless, brainless chatter, that worried me a lot
I don’t mind telling you just about almost everything
As long as you can promise that you’ll forget it right away
This way it and all’s forgiven, don’t matter if you pay
Sneak into the next phase of simple decay
The phase you thought was over, has come back here to stay
If you thought a quick and solemn visit was all you had to do
Guess again my long lost friend, it’s always been up to you
Don’t’ wreck the train of thought that plows through that debris
It’ll carry clear emotion, it’s simple to see
Whereas, wherefore, what will ever, will never ever be
Now you’re simply bothered, you’ve tried it and you’re caught
Just imagine the surprise if air had been forgot
Guessing games are pretty wild and full of live choice
The answer always eludes us if we cannot take the noise
Battered breaded bangles hang limply from her wrist
Its colored paper balled up inside the clinching fist
First the parade’s a dismal failure and the ocean’s a dried up lot
Now we’ve got this sunshine thing, no wonder we all fought
Who’s care if mountains swallowed your last rounded table or even handed chair
The furniture doesn’t matter, it’s the color that went square

You always move me to tears, don't you
I want to look out over the mountain
and there you are, the sun
and I can't take my eyes off you
wave after wave of ocean
It feels good
but I don't want to love you
not like this
my love is too intense for you

Sunset Bahrain 3/25/10

Heading west to chase the amber,
Tastes of Gulf lure the hunt,
For a moment, a thought, a single breath,
That pulls the ship beyond it's death.

Drop Behind.

Call To Prayer.

The Day I Was Born

Every single morning since the day I was born
My Daddy told his children that it wouldn't be long.

I said, Will I be big enough to drive the car?

You will drive, my son, and you will go very far.
You can drive all night until you see the light

And when you come back down you have to stand on the ground.

And I'm so proud of you, son, that you can think ahead,
Now enjoy your life, one day, you're gonna be dead.

Well, I have been through the night, and when I found the light
I was old enough to know that Daddy was right.

Much thanks to Janine and Kailee for helping me out with this one.

Your Sister Brings Me an Orchard

Each day after class we sit
on steps together and she pulls

apples from her purple backpack.
We talk about impact: the body

in relation to space in relation to
the body, or the body in relation

to itself, the body in relation
to another body. I talk circles

like rings inside a tree suggest
growth, but I'm going nowhere.

I suggest things. I don't indicate
my need directly. I'm more

ashamed than afraid of judgment.
I think about baptism. I would drown

for you. I would deny
my body to protect you.

I crouch, walk with bad posture,
because I'm afraid of taking

too much space. I'm afraid
my body will speak ahead of me.

Nights I sleep with you
I bend and crease myself

into the sheets the way I cover
this paper with my hand.

A Poem for March

March begins to tune.
Winds test pitch,
Singers warble,
and quicksilver light turns our heads.

We come to quite for this overture
and wait to see who struts this stage,
again.

What lines echo?
Though each green curtain is its own,
we know the final act.

March opens.

Sing, O' sing with the song of Spring,
winter take thy slumbered rest as the sun rises to start springs fest
so sing O' sing for the entrance of spring has sprung!

This poem was my winning poem in high school for the Arts Festival. We had to submit a fake name and mine was Angelus Erickson, ha.

The Elusive Dead

There was a time when the Elusive Dead
Rose to an occasion of fear and dread
And when the rose, they gave a great roar
with skeletal masks their faces bore

Then a vision of green and yellow eyes
Told of a story hard to hide

It took place on a day when time was reversed
and the brightest star moved toward the earth
and all around the tranquil sea
rode bareback there, those wisemen three

The dead I fear are in a rage
remembering the day that they were plagued
to live and be tortured all of their days
to be the dark one's eternal slave

Then out of turmoil grew a proclamation
to destroy any giving invocation

and so they continue with their
blasphemy
never to live again
never to stand free

so live the Elusive Dead
Full of hatred, full of dread

Oh moon of moons you start to find my deepest quest
Oh moon of moons you start to find my truest quest
A tickling wind that makes me want your eyes
To make them speak to me

Oh moon of moons with the same passions that I feel for you
You feel for me
A moment to be internal
To imagine what you are

I want to create you
I want you to be what I need
I don’t want to know you
Because you have needs too

Oh moon why hinder my point of view
I don’t want to love you
Just images of you

She gets this way
When she is not moving
All blah, blah blah
or, "That ain't right!"
Unless she do what
Boris Willis does.
ARGH!
Someone needs to go
Beddie-bye
or
Move

I look
I see
I stumble

I feel
I touch
I suffer

I think
I worry
I wonder

I know
I knew
I blunder

This is a site poem I wrote in Richmond Va.

Enter the labyrinth,
Transatlantic psychoanalysis
tiger skin feeds me like dried fruit
the shadow cools in the back yard
if the pod breaks parallel passe
forgive me if I stare
I heard you coming
pryex drinking cups permitted
toasted oats
11 single serving cans
I tried to explain balsamic but a word would have to do
always breath when smoking
drive
the car of the future
back when you were a tadpole and I was a fish
crawling on some Indian shore
thank you for being a part of my life she said
sure, I'll see you there
